ORGANIZATION: FARMASTE ANIMAL SANCTUARY INC

Pigs enjoying their dinner

We need volunteers to assist with caring for our farmed animals residents during farm closing at our sanctuary in Lindstrom, MN. Residents currently include cows, pigs, sheep, and goats; additional farmed animal species will be added in the future.

Tasks include closing in the residents, feeding (feed & hay distribution), stall cleaning, refreshing residents’ water, and observing animal behavior / health for potential problems. Closing tasks typically take 1.5 - 2 hours.

Farm Animal Care volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. You must be comfortable working with large farm animals (e.g., cows and pigs); prior farm animal experience is not required, but is beneficial. Finally, Farm Animal Care volunteers must be reliable - the health and well-being of our residents depends on it!

Farm Animal Care volunteers must attend an Animal Care Training, which are held Saturday mornings at 9:30 (visit https://farmaste.org/volunteer/volunteer-opps/ to see and sign up for training dates) and shadow a trained volunteer a minimum of 4 times before signing up for independent shifts. After you are trained, you will be expected to sign up for regular (e.g., weekly or biweekly) shifts. We do ask for a year commitment once your weekly shift has been assigned. Please contact us with any questions. Thank you!
