Want to make a difference?
Do you have an interest in the criminal justice system? Do you want to help formerly incarcerated individuals piece their lives back together? Or perhaps you just like the idea of helping someone whose made past mistakes move beyond them towards a better, brighter tomorrow. Whatever your motivation, join this great program and assist clients with requesting, reading, and repairing their rap sheets, applying for Certificates of Good Conduct and Certificates of Relief from Disabilities, honestly discussing their conviction histories with prospective employers, and so much more. If you want to help but do not wish to work directly with clients, consider assisting with the design and marketing of the program’s volunteer recruitment plan. This opportunity is in Midtown East.

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
