Children Across America: Empowering Communities

Children Across America, a humanitarian organization, provides literacy support to under-served children in the United States. Its vision is to empower families and children in under-served communities. Its unique programs are focused on improving and driving educational excellence. The organization partners with libraries and school systems to ensure children get the full benefit of its programs. To learn more, please visit www.childrenacrossamerica.org.

We will launch our 4th summer reading club on July 9th and it will end on August 23rd, Mondays thru Thursdays from 930-1230 and we need to expand our group volunteers due to increased attendance. During this event we will have a reading and math club for children that will include reading and math groups as well as lunch. Their will also be a leadership class taught by Boosterthon and a fun run at the end of the program.

The club is organized and led by a certified teacher and all services are free. The club is 930-1130 and then lunch is 1130-1230. Lunch is optional and up to the parents. The children can also have their siblings join them for a free lunch daily.

Our objective is to promote reading as a lifelong activity, as a fun activity. We don't want children just to read, we want them to love to read. We also develop their math skills with fun games. A healthy lunch will also be provided on site for free everyday.

Key responsibilities would include reading to children, play math games, supervise the children and to help out our book club leaders.

The program runs Monday thru Thursdays starting July 9th and ending August 23rd. You can pick the days you are available, some volunteers do the entire program and others have specific availability. A background check is required, it is free to you. There will be a required two hour training on Saturday July 7th to go over safety, curriculum and the lunch program. We ask that you do everything you can to attend but if you cant, we will train you at the beginning of the program.

Please contact us if you are interested in this opportunity. This does qualify as community service hours for your school.

A child who reads becomes an adult who thinks. A healthy mind needs a healthy body.
