Summer Program Internship Position

Reports to: Executive Director, Special Events Director, & Special Event Coordinator

Organization Description

GOTR Central KY is a non-profit, community-based program that uses the power of running to educate and inspire girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program began in Lexington, KY in 2008 with less than 10 volunteer coaches and 26 girls and now has more than 250 volunteer coaches who mentor nearly 800 young girls (3 rd - 8 th grade) in after-school sessions that combine training for a 5K running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting lessons. GOTR Central KY sessions integrate specific life-skills training such as healthy decision-making, dealing with bullies, contributing to the community, leadership and teamwork.

Position Summary

The GOTR Central KY Intern works with the staff to help with preparation for the Girls on the Run program and any summer/fall fundraising events. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing all special events with assistance from staff, board members, and events committee
  • Assist Special Events Coordinator with the SoleMates fundraising program
  • Assist with the compilation of GOTR supplies including inventory, stocking, and organizing office materials
  • Work with the special event committee to assist members with tasks, donation requests, marketing of events, and promoting volunteer opportunities to the community
  • Attend all special events and assist with set up, clean up, errands corresponding to the event, and providing hospitality to our guests
  • Assist with administrative duties that support the overall operations of GOTR (i.e., assist with data entry, etc.)
  • Assist with promoting season volunteer opportunities via email, in person meetings, social media, reaching out to local groups, etc.
  • Create and manage social media Facebook events and special event posts

  • Excellent research, writing and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Willing to work in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • A positive attitude
  • Understands and embraces diversity and inclusiveness in thought, word and actions
  • Understands and embraces a healthy lifestyle in thought, word, and actions
  • Graphic design experience

Time Commitment

  • The summer intern is expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. There will be a mix of office work and work that you can do from home. Also, some errand work within Fayette County
  • Position starts mid May and runs through the beginning of August

Girls on the Run Central Kentucky is a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training - all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.
