ORGANIZATION: Newfoundland Pony Conservancy Center

Grand Opening in new location
Our events and volunteer opportunities are fun - pictured here is our pony kissing booth.

We have a variety of opportunities. All of them enjoyable and enlightening.

Event and fundraising Helpers - Event planning, coordination and marketing. We hold many events and are only limited by the amount of people available to coordinate them.

Volunteer Coordinator - to recruit, arrange schedules and help ensure volunteer rules are followed. This can be for both barn help and fundraising volunteers, however that position can be divided between two people, one for barn help, the other for fundraising volunteers.

Social media coordinator - we are popular on Facebook, and Instagram but need to keep them fresh and up to date.

Horse Teamster - looking for someone experienced in doing draft work with equines to do demonstrations with our ponies, 3 of which are experienced work ponies.

Experienced driver - In need of someone experienced in driving carts and wagonette. We have 2 ponies on site who drive. This would be for demonstrations but also to take people on rides.

Barn Help - we have hands-on pony care positions but those are limited and require training. In the summer months those positions are usually filled.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Newfoundland Pony Conservancy Center is to provide a safe haven for critically endangered Newfoundland ponies, to preserve and save this distinct heritage landrace breed as is through careful breeding, and educating the public to the plight of these creatures.

Description

Newfoundland Pony Conservancy Center (formally Villi Poni Farm) was established to provide safe haven for the critically endangered Newfoundland Pony, in the hope of saving the breed from impending extinction. Once a thriving working breed on the rugged island of Newfoundland, these North American native ponies were slaughtered nearly to extinction in the late 1900s. Now less than 250 ponies that are able to have offspring exist in the world. 13 of them live at our sanctuary, and others reside at foster and adoptive homes, all of them being under our umbrella of protection that the sanctuary provides.
Our approach to achieve this mission is multi-faceted. We provide shelter and protection for Newfoundland ponies. Our programs include teaching conservation breeding, offering general public interaction through tours, open barn days, day camps, exhibits, and attending fairs and festivals. We also offer an Equine Assisted Learning life skills program. While all of what we do strives to save the breed, at the same time we provide educational, interesting and fun activities for our community. Newfoundland Pony Conservancy Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
