The ocean does a lot for us, but what can you do for the ocean?
What if you could inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to help protect our ocean and its inhabitants? What if you could be the gateway to a first experience with marine life, or the spark that inspires an awe of the seas?
At the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab in Santa Cruz, we help you make those dreams a reality with our spring Exhibit Guide training. Join us and attend hands-on courses into the world of marine science and public interpretation.
As an Exhibit Guide at the Seymour Center, you’ll receive hands-on training to work with the public in marine science and conservation. Exhibit Guides interpret the exhibits in our visitor hall, work with the animals at our seawater table and shark touch-pool, interact with the Long Marine Lab community, and enjoy expanded and in-depth learning opportunities.
Fill out a volunteer application today. All appropriate applicants will be interviewed prior to the training, in order to best serve you and your passion for the ocean. All fall Exhibit Guide applicants must be 15 years or older, and commit to one 4.25-hour shift every other week for 6 months, or one 4.25-hour shift every week for 3 months after the completion of training. No experience is necessary. We are especially eager to hire those who are fluent in Spanish.
