Help the medically underserved by serving as a volunteer provider at Open Arms Health Clinic! Open Arms is a free clinic in Arlington, TX that provides care to low-income and uninsured individuals in North Texas. We are completely volunteer run and would not be able to carry out our mission without physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners providing their time and talent.

At Open Arms, many of our physicians have commented that as volunteers, they are able to practice medicine the way they were taught in school, without worrying about meeting patient quotas and rushing against the clock. Many find volunteering at Open Arms to be one of the most rewarding and fun jobs they’ve done in their professional careers. The clinic provides high quality, evidence-based care to those without any other options for healthcare. All levels of experience are welcome from recent grads to retirees. Most of our patients come in for chronic condition management or acute non-emergency care. If you are interested in practicing your specialty that opportunity is also available at Open Arms. We have several volunteer specialists who come on a reduced schedule to see patients referred by our generalist providers.

Since Open Arms is a free clinic, we provide malpractice insurance through the Free Clinics FTCA Program, contingent on a background check (past malpractice claims do not automatically disqualify you). You will also need to have a current license to qualify for this insurance. If you are a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, we will arrange delegation from one of our current volunteer physicians.

Since many patients come as walk-ins, every day brings a unique set of challenges which requires us to be flexible to meet the needs of our patients and our volunteers. However, many of our regular physicians and nurse practitioners have been volunteering for years and will be more than happy to assist you with understanding our clientele and simple processes.
