Civic Art Lab is a pop-up gallery and workshop space, hosted by GreenspaceNYC. Our 3-day lab addresses the concept of sustainable futures. What does a sustainable future look like? In NYC? Around the world? As populations grow, sea levels rise, and food systems are modified, what roles will sustainability and design play? In envisioning what a sustainable future is, it’s possible to imagine successful, as well as dystopian, outcomes.
Civic Art Lab is hosted by GreenspaceNYC, now in its fourth iteration. GreenspaceNYC is a non-profit collaborative that develops and curates free sustainability and design education programming, hands-on workshops, and public design projects to promote and equitable and sustainable future. Our public programs take place in a range of spaces from public parks to to community spaces to vacant storefronts. Each project is created in collaboration with volunteer-artists, designers, scientists, educators, activists, and the public. The organization is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, giving it its status as a 501(c)(3) and receives material sponsorship from Material for the Arts (NYC Office of Cultural Affairs).
