Making Strides Advocacy & Mission Chair Position Summary
Advocacy and Mission Chair’s primary responsibility is to recruit ACS CAN
members and engage Making Strides participants in fighting back through
advocacy and educate participants on the mission of the American Cancer
Society, available programs and services, and the work The Society is doing in the
fight against breast cancer.

Responsibilities
 Work with Publicity, Marketing & Social Media Engagement Chair to
develop and implement a plan to deliver Breast Cancer Mission Education
Messages and ACS Programming.
 Work with Team Development Chair(s) to Team Leads, participants,
volunteers, and community to take action on the Society’s legislative
priorities and ACS CAN materials and resources.
 Ensure that Core Event Leadership Team includes and considers advocacy
and mission education and activation in their plans by including ACS CAN
education, celebrations, and member recruitment in their agenda when
Making Strides participants are gathered.
 Communicate and disseminate materials provided from ACS CAN to help
raise awareness about breast cancer-related legislative priorities and to
recruit ACS CAN members.
 Collaborate with Registration and Accounting Lead to track ACS CAN
membership forms/fees.
 Partner with Logistics Chair on needs for Breast Cancer Mission Messaging
and Advocacy space for support events and MSABC event
 Become an ACS CAN member and attend your state’s Lobby Day effort.
 Seek out and implement ways to recognize, highlight and further engage
current ACS CAN members
 Seek out and implement ways to recognize, highlight and further engage
current program volunteers

This is the first official year for the American Cancer Societies Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Every three-five mile Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite as a community to honor breast cancer survivors, and raise awareness about steps we can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.

Description

Making Strides is a fundraising walk rasing funds for The American Cancer Society for breast cancer research and FREE programs for cancer patients.
This is event is open to runners, walkers, families, survivors, caregivers, patients, businesses, teachers, students. We invite our entire community to join together to raise money and walk to show we are in this together! Register and join us in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer! Nobody walks alone!
