The Salvation Army New Jersey Divisional Headquarters seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist with the development of the social media strategy.

Position:Social Media Intern

Responsibilities: The role will heavily involve researching methods of engaging our current donors who have Facebook accounts, as well as looking for ways to engage with the 20 year-40 year age demographic. This volunteer opportunity is an excellent way to gain experience in various aspects of social media while working for a well-known nonprofit organization.


  • Working toward a college degree (60 college credits), preferably in a related field (Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
  • Firm grasp of available social media tools and applications
  • Confident in researching trending topics relevant to nonprofits and the 20-40 year old demographic
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral, able to articulate compelling narratives
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for The Salvation Army’s mission

Reports to: Direct Marketing Manager

Location: The Salvation Army, New Jersey Divisional Headquarters: 4 Gary Road, Union, NJ 07083

Start Date: 2/26/2018

Close Date: TBD

Hours:3 days/week (12-20hrs).

Compensation:This is an Unpaid Position that can be completed for credit
