Portland Panty Project Looking for a Long Term Volunteer to Help Women in Need

The Portland Panty Project has grown this past year, but the majority of our organization (myself included) will be graduating college this May and moving throughout the country. While I will be here until May and will continue to manage the organization after that, we are in need of volunteers who are looking for a long term and increasing role in our organization. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly and committed to helping the homeless women of Portland. Volunteers should also be willing to take a leadership role as we get closer to May and onwards. If you think you are that person, please contact me! This year until May you would be working directly with me as I show you the ropes of the organization. Then, if you are willing, I will set you up with a larger role. My idea is to have 1 or 2 volunteers for each of our four centers who would be in charge of distributions at these centers. This would consist of shopping at Walmart (or other stores where we can get products in bulk) for products (bras, underwear, feminine products), sending me your receipts, organizing and holding on to your inventory of undergarments, and distributing monthly at the center you are assigned to. Distributions typically take place once monthly on Friday or Saturday night’s beginning anywhere from 5-7pm and lasting two hours. Each center is different, but in general as an organization we like to treat our distributions as a shopping experience for the women receiving undergarments. This means that we take care of women one or two at a time, helping them to choose the right undergarments, and listening to their chatter as would a customer service representative at a store. It is for this reason that we ask volunteers to be friendly, personable and patient.
