Empowering youth to become the environmental leaders of tomorrow!

The ETIV Environmental Coordinator is an absolutely critical member of the ETIV team. It is the duty of the environmental coordinator to help identify ways to promote and ensure increased and sustainable environmental conservation in and around Itacaré. Meanwhile, there are endless possibilities to conduct research here, as our NGO is located where the Atlantic rainforest and the Contas River meet the Ocean, and where beautiful beaches, waterfalls and wildlife abound.

Our main goal is to develop a new generation of local (Brazilian) youth leaders that will actively care for each other, their community and the environment. This project includes an educational campaign with fun and interactive trainings and activities to teach children and youth how incredibly important it is to take care of our natural environment and to work together to combat global climate change.

Our volunteer coordinator is expected to continue to expand upon and lead weekly trainings with youth. In addition, we also expect our environmental coordinator to participate in our mangrove restoration project when possible, although this work is seasonal and mangrove seeds are normally ready to be collected and planted in late February and March.

In addition, our Environmental coordinator is expected to take responsibility for our compost pile, to help ensure that we and others in our community are recycling, and to continue to work on our organic garden. Beyond this work, the coordinators will have a great deal of freedom and flexibility to focus on other environmental projects, depending on the interests and needs of both the volunteers and the community.

Our Environmental Coordinator must commit at least 3 months to the project and must speak at least intermediate Portuguese. However, we also offer an Environmental Volunteer position that only requires a 1-month commitment and basic Portuguese to start. Please visit our website to find out more about ETIV, all of our projects and how to apply by going to www.etivdobrasil.org.

Our mission at ETIV do Brasil is to connect international volunteers with local communities to support environmental conservation and development in Brazil. We give volunteers the option to stay at our Volunteer House and add on Portuguese and Capoeira classes to their experience. ETIV can also link volunteers to stunning eco-adventure tours. Please find us on the web at www.etivdobrasil.org for more information about all of our volunteer opportunities and packages.

Most interns can receive university credit while interning with our NGO and some are even able to receive a University stipend or grant to help cover their expenses. We can offer ongoing support and supervision and can help organize taxi pickups, local accommodations and even Portuguese and/or Capoeira classes. All volunteers and interns will also receive our Pre-Departure Powerpoint, and Introduction to the NGO, a tour of Itacare and life insurance during their internship at the NGO.

Low income volunteers and interns that are willing and able to dedicate at least 6 months time commitment to the project may apply for a grant with the NGO to have their volunteer contribution waved. This allows students to receive all the benefits of volunteering with our NGO (including life insurance, a tour of Itacare, an induction to the NGO, training in your project, ongoing supervision and support and 24 hour emergency support) completely free of charge. However, all volunteers and interns are responsible for covering their own food, travel and accommodation expenses. ETIV do Brasil does provide a volunteer house where volunteers and interns can live at a very affordable price.
