The STEM and/or Literacy Teacher is responsible for providing instruction to assist students in achieving their educational objectives. The instructor will work with 10 to 15 students in-person during afterschool or summer. The Teacher will support Education For Scholars (EFS) in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning learning environment in which our students can take full advantage of the course and the available resource materials. Courses are not credited based but students' performance will be documented in order to determine students' achievement and the program's impact.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Certified teacher or a student studying education with enrollment in education at an institution of higher learning.
  • If a college student, they must be maintaining or have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better in their courses. Experience in STEM and/or Literacy instruction preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with EFS, students, parents/guardians the learning community.
  • Ability to do lesson planning and execute the instruction in the subject area assigned.


Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to assist students in reading, writing, and mathematics as well as provide them with STEM and/or Literacy instruction
  • Ability to work well with children and/or teens
  • Ability to communicate effectively and use online instructional platforms or a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to conduct formative and summative assessments and have efficient record-keeping of students' grades or have the willingness to learn.

Experience in at least one of these areas:
  • Background to include activities that involve students or an interest in working with school-age children.
  • Experience working or currently being trained to work in an instructional or school environment.
  • Experience or currently being trained to work in the areas of child development and/or education.

  • These in-person courses require at least 5 hours of instruction per week per course and at least 6 hours daily during the summer.
  • We are looking for certified teachers as well as college students interested in receiving hands-on experience. Teachers with a willingness to help students with their academic achievements and to give them exposure to STEM education.
