English in Action Conversation Mentors have the potential to make a direct impact in their local
community by working one-to-one with patrons who want to improve their English. Mentors will help
mentees become more comfortable and confident with English conversational literacy. Mentors connect
with each student personally and encourage them as they build confidence in their English-speaking
ability. Above all, this is an exciting role sure to provide you with an overall enriching experience as you
get to know a culturally diverse group of individuals and build community by learning together here at the
Kansas City Public Library.
The primary focus of the English in Action Conversation Mentors is to encourage students patiently and
enthusiastically to hone their English comprehension and conversational skills. Mentors get mentees
excited about the English language and how it will help them achieve their goals. We want our students to
feel confident and to feel the support of the Kansas City community. Mentors will have an opportunity to
build community and forge relationships with our students outside of the traditional classroom by meeting with their mentee for two hours per week at any Kansas City Public Library location.
