The Burlingame Public Library now offers Repair Cafes a few times a year at our location. What is a Repair Cafe? Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things (together). In the place where a Repair Café is located, you’ll find tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, et cetera. You’ll also find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields. https://repaircafe.org/en/

Burlingame Library has run four Repair Cafes already and they were all well-attended, but we're in need of fixers to grow the program. Most of our repairs have been on lamps, small appliances, small sewing projects, bike tune-up, and jewelry repair. Our current fixers bring their own tools and the library will buy parts as needed.

We really need people who can do general repairs, sewing, and bike tune-up. We have an Ace Hardware nearby and we need a runner who can pick up items as needed (the Library pays for it). We also do an e-waste drive and need volunteers to monitor that as well.

This a great one-day volunteering opportunity and quite satisfying for the fixers. It is collaborative and community-focused and keeps perfectly useful items out of landfill.
