Purpose of Role: Hennepin Health provides health care coverage to Hennepin County residents who are enrolled in a Minnesota health care program. Hennepin Health is a nonprofit, state-certified health maintenance organization that contracts with the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Hennepin Health enrollees are invited to participate in a monthly health education presentation/event called "Wellness Wednesdays" held in the walk-in service center at Hennepin Health. Topics range from substance use disorder to dental benefits to community resources. The volunteers would be assisting the staff who plan and run the events with day of needs to ensure the event runs smoothly and enrollees are taken care of.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsibilities will vary at each event and may include but aren’t limited to:

  • Helping set-up event and presentation
  • Greeting attendees and guiding them where to go
  • Answering basic and general questions
  • Passing out and making sure supplies, food, giveaways, information is fully stocked
  • Helping clean-up of event

Requirements:

  • Dependable and realizable
  • Friendly, welcoming, and outgoing
  • Respect and confidentiality for attendees
  • Openness and willingness to help and interact with diverse group of attendees from all walks of life
  • Willing to be flexible and open to do whatever is needed as well as taking direction well
  • Must be 18 years or older and pass a standard background check

Time Commitment and Location:

  • Wellness Wednesdays are the last Wednesday of the month from 1-3pm. Volunteers would need to be available 12:00pm-3pm.
  • Ability to attend at least 4 events per year
  • Location: Grain Exchange Building, 400 South Fourth Street, Suite 201, Minneapolis, MN 55415

Supervision: Volunteer is supervised by Hennepin Health Wellness Wednesday organizers as well as a Coordinator of Volunteers.

  • Opportunities to participate in free Hennepin County trainings throughout the year.

Description

The work of our Department tends to fall into three major areas:

  1. Increasing safety and stability of individuals and families through services such as child and adult protection, providing temporary emergency shelter, and more.
  2. Promoting self-reliance and a livable income through a mixture of federal and state programs, such as SNAP (food support), Child Support, Veterans' Service, cash assistance programs and more.
  3. Improving the health of the community through public health care programs, restaurant inspections, regulating emergency medical services, providing crisis response to behavioral health emergencies, immunization services, a public health clinic, and more.
