We have a wide variety of available duties that are open to anyone who is interested in helping animals. Duties include cleaning kennels (both indoor and outdoor), changing pee pads, feeding, grooming, scooping poop, washing pet dishes, socializing animals, playing with animals, walking dogs, and performing any other duties that may help us.
We do not require any prior experience, but it helps. Please let us know what experience you have when contacting us.
Message us to sign up. Once you do, you will first complete a volunteer orientation which takes under 30 minutes. The first few times you volunteer, we make sure that someone is with you at the facility. Once you feel comfortable and understand the way things work, volunteers are encouraged to come help out whenever possible without needing to schedule certain times. We believe volunteers should be able to come in and help whenever they feel that they can.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to protect and help dogs and cats from homelessness neglect, abuse, cruelty and abandonment. VIDA does not belong to any one person but instead to all of its volunteers. We adopt out about 50-60 cats and dogs per month - we rescue dogs from high-kill shelters, low income neighborhoods, and from the streets of Mexico. Description
Volunteers in Defense of Animals is a non-profit organization working to end the suffering and mistreatment of dogs and cats in Southern California. We bring spay and neuter services to areas where families cannot afford them; we facilitate the rescue, foster care, and adoption of animals whenever possible, and we offer education and support to those involved in the care of animals.
We have found forever homes for hundreds of dogs and cats, with around 4-5 new adoptions taking place each week. Many of our dogs come from local high-kill shelters before they are euthanized and on the streets of both the US and Mexico. We also have spay/neuter operations in low-income neighborhoods in the US and in Mexico and have spayed/neutered thousands of pets.
