About Yellow Circle

Yellow Circle Learning Platform is a virtual computer lab for students to learn, innovate, and be creative with their ideas in a safe and controlled sandbox environment.

Initially, the project was started in our founder’s garage to provide virtual computer lab environment for just one student, which quickly increased to a few students, and over 200 in a just two months. This small idea of free computer lab outgrew the resources available at our founder’s garage, and with help from several like minded individuals, in September 2014 Yellow Circle Inc was created as a non-profit organization to continue providing the resources and learning opportunities to anyone around the world interested in exploring Information Technology as a career.

Yellow Circle Learning Platform has been home to over 100,000 projects created by close to 75,000 students from around the world.

Yellow Circle aims to extend accessibility to the technology career field for the under-resourced students from Sacramento region with special focus on those who feel a career in technology is out of reach due to cost and complexity. Yellow Circle’s programs are here to provide a foundation for our future IT workforce. Our Learning Platform provides a sandbox for students to be creative, innovative, and learn new skills, and our internship opportunities for students to apply those newly learned skills, and gain the much needed experience to be successful in technology careers.

Yellow Circle seeks to help develop future Information Technology professionals in Sacramento region and narrow the digital divide by providing both education and direct experience in information technology.


Board of Directors position

Yellow Circle is a quickly growing non-profit with a mission to accelerate tech for good. As Yellow Circle expands the organization will thrive under the support of a strong Board of Directors who believes in the power of easily accessible technology education to solve the technological divide.

The Board of Directors supports Yellow Circle by providing leadership and strategic governance. While the day-to-day operations of Yellow Circle are lead by the President of the non-profit, the individuals on the Board of Directors relationship is a partnership, and engagement of the Board is critical.


Roles & Responsibilities

Mission & Strategy: Aid in making decisions about Yellow Circle. Set Yellow Circle’s strategy, guide our growth, manage risk and sustainability, monitor effectiveness of programs via performance metrics, and generate new approaches to Yellow Circle’s challenges and opportunities.

Ambassadorship: Act as an advocate of Yellow Circle, raising Yellow Circle’s profile by making introductions to key leaders as well as guiding media and partnership opportunities. Assist the President and Board Chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.

Financial Support and Stability: Guide the organization financially by provide financial support to fuel Yellow Circle’s growth and ensure stability. Consider Yellow Circle a philanthropic priority and contribute at a level that reflects that priority. Commit $5,000 in cash for a year. Provide $10,000 in kind credit. Offer pro bono work that can benefit Yellow Circle. The total support will be at least $15,000 annually to Yellow Circle.

Preparation and Attendance: Terms are for one year and members are eligible for reappointment.
