What things do volunteers help with?

We have a variety of opportunities for people to help the library provide its many services to the community. Some of the opportunities are shelving and organizing materials, helping with craft preparation and providing assistance with youth programming.

What is the time commitment for volunteering?

During the school year, volunteers usually work one to two hours a week. Summer volunteers assisting with our Summer Reading Club work two to fours hours a week depending on availability. Some volunteer opportunities require a 6-8 week commitment.

What is the minimum age required for volunteering?

Teen volunteers are ages 13-17.

Can I complete service hours for school?

Yes. The library is a great place to work on service hours required for school.

The Schertz Public Library has chosen the following service responses as areas of focus.

Create Young Readers: Early Literacy-Preschool children will have programs and services designed to ensure that they will enter school ready to learn to read, write, and listen.

Satisfy Curiosity: Lifelong Learning-Residents will have the resources they need to explore topics of personal interest and continue to learn throughout their lives.

Stimulate Imagination: Reading, Viewing and Listening for Pleasure-Residents who want materials to enhance their leisure time will find what they want when and where they want them and will have the help they need to make choices from among the options.

Make Informed Decisions: Health, Wealth, and Other Life Choices-Residents will have the resources they need to identify and analyze risks, benefits, and alternatives before making decisions that affect their lives.

Connect to the Online World: Public Internet Access-Residents will have high-speed access to the digital world with no unnecessary restrictions or fees to ensure that everyone can take advantage of the ever-growing resources and services available through the Internet.

Visit a Comfortable Place-Residents will have safe and welcoming physical places to meet and interact with others or to sit quietly and read and will have open and accessible virtual spaces that support social networking.
