Volunteer with the 2018 Uhuru Health Festival!
We are looking for groups of volunteers (or individuals who want to be part of a group of volunteers) to volunteer for 3 BIG community outreach events!
The Uhuru Health Festival is addressing the serious health disparities faced by the Black community in Oakland and you can be part of it! Did you know that people living in East and West Oakland live almost 15 years less than people living in the Lake Merritt area? The Uhuru Health Festival is putting the power of health back into the hands of the African community!
The 2018 Uhuru Health Festival will feature completely free health screenings including private screenings for sensitive issues, free fitness and gardening demos, free healthy lunch for everyone, free kid's activities including facepainting, live music and vendors, giveaways and more!
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED to let people know this important event is happening! Folks need these resources, help us inform the folks that need this health festival so they don't miss it!
We need groups of at least 10 volunteers to sign up for the following days:
Saturday, March 31st 10 am - 2 pm
Sunday, April 1st 10 am - 2 pm
Sunday, April 15th 10 am - 2 pm
Sunday, April 22nd 10 am - 2 pm
Groups will get a training and go out in teams to put health festival flyers with English and Spanish on doorknobs informing the community that the health festival is happening and what resources will be available!
Groups will get water, a snack and you will be a KEY part of making sure that this health festival is putting the power of health and healthcare back into the hands of the African community!

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Grand Lake area store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
