Opening Doors is seeking a Communications & Development Intern to support and expand the organization’s communications, event planning and outreach efforts.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervised by the Communications and Development Associate to support development/fund development activities including 2 fundraising campaigns -Big Day of Giving and End of Year Appeal.
  • Donor Management activities that include donor analysis, data management, periodic reports for Board of Directors, grants and others as needed.
  • Social Media -- follower engagement across several mediums
  • Assist with Donor & Volunteer Newsletters
  • Support timely completion of donor appreciation correspondence Communications
  • Help write content for social media, direct appeals, newsletters campaigns, grant submissions and reports.
  • Assist in advocacy campaigns as needed for local, state and federal education and awareness about agency’s mission and programs
  • Assist Communications and Development Associate in maintaining donor database to ensure accurate and up to date donor information
  • Commit a minimum of 12 hours per week

Knowledge and Skills

  • Interest in the field of non-profit communications and fundraising
  • College graduate or current college student
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others
  • High attention to detail

Preferred

  • Experience in fundraising and/or event planning is a plus, but not required
  • Communications, journalism, liberal arts, or social sciences background

Internships with Opening Doors
A formal work arrangement that is part of an educational or training course where you must gain experience in a particular field.

  • The length of the arrangement will be based on your school’s requirements and our organizational needs.
  • You will receive skills development opportunities that help you transition from study to work.
  • While you are expected to follow professional standards, the work performed is measured by periodic evaluation as required by your affiliated school.

Volunteer positions are less formal and not linked to an educational institution, but still offer opportunities for professional development.
