Dovalema Early Childhood Center

We are a growing organization, doing great work on the African Content. We are registered in Minnesota, in the United States as well.

Our work is geared toward building village preschools across Sierra Leone, through the lens of Permaculture. We are a volunteer team that looks at ecology as the center for our survival.

We are looking for someone with web design interest, passion, in supporting our purpose of supporting early childhood education and the environment in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy works in partnership with communities to build the foundation for citizens of all ages to deliberate and enact new, non-adversarial alternatives that nurture democratic relationships and decision making among and across individuals, families, institutions, and the environment. OUR APPROACH The Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy is actively transforming extractive and exploitative dynamics by reviving Africa’s nonviolent, deliberative traditions of decision making-the foundation for a new democracy-through the vehicles of Food Sovereignty & Ecological Resilience, Mass Critical Literacy, and Cooperative Economics. SLFND's current programming in these areas include Ta-Valema Permaculture Farm & Learning Lab, Dovalema Early Childhood Center, and Social Enterprise Cooperatives

Mission Statement

Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy (SLFND), mission is to work in partnership at the village level to nurture democratic relationships, build local resilient institutions and incorporate ecologically sustainable principles into the work,

Description

My name is Hindolo Pokawa; I founded a small, grassroots 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in Minnesota called Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy (SLFND), to engage others in the US and in Africa in establishing a sustainable-based preschool in rural farming communities in Sierra Leone. The preschool-building projects, both through hands-on construction work in Sierra Leone and through fundraising have achieved greater impact for the long-term sustainability for about 250 children in our first village in Sierra Leone. (www.slfnd.org). especially with gardening/farming to replace the failing slash and burn tradition thereby increasing food production to feed children twice daily- four days a week, and to provide critical literacy, that would support cognitive skills, fine motor skills, social skills and developmental skills for children ages 2-5.
