newlogos

The Homeless Children's Playtime Project provides trauma-informed play programs for youth at family homeless shelters in DC. Playtime Project also provides various donation drives and services for families.

We need Volunteers in Motion who have cars, who can commit at least once a month to drive donations (toys, supplies, diapers, etc) from our office to a family shelter site. Generally, Volunteers in Motion serve on an on-call basis, with the exact dates/times of pick-up and drop-off flexible depending on volunteer availability and amount of donations. Volunteers in Motion will join an email list to receive notifications about needs and will sign up for about one shift per month.

Interested volunteers will need to complete a background check and sign a waiver.

About Homeless Children's Playtime Project

Location:

1525 Newton St NW, Washington, DC 20010, US

Mission Statement

The mission of the Homeless Children’s Playtime Project is to nurture healthy child development and reduce the effects of trauma among children living in temporary housing programs in Washington D.C. We seek to create a city that provides every opportunity for children in homeless families to succeed by ensuring consistent opportunities to play and learn, offering support services for families, and advocating for affordable housing and safe shelter.

Description

The Homeless Children's Playtime Project is a small staff team supported by countless volunteers providing weekly activities, healthy snacks, and opportunities for play to the children at shelters and transitional housing programs in the District of Columbia. Through eight weekly children’s programs, volunteers provide playful games, chances to learn through art, movement and imaginative play, one-on-one attention and caring adult supervision for children, as well as support for the entire family with parent support and referrals, clothing and school supply donations, and chances to celebrate with birthday and holiday parties throughout the year.
