Description

From its humble beginnings in the Langley Park movie theater in 1950, St. Camillus has grown into a thriving parish, where more than 5,000 people gather to worship each weekend. Our community, composed of people from more than 100 countries, strives for unity while celebrating the diversity that is our strength and our challenge.

While the parish was originally made up of the descendants of European immigrants, over the years new waves of immigrants have come from the East, West and South; from Asia, Africa and Latin America. These newcomers to the United States have felt welcomed at St. Camillus by those founding families and their children. We are a parish of open minds, open hearts and open doors.

Centered in the Eucharist and guided by the Holy Spirit, we are a multicultural community that strives to proclaim the Gospel in our neighborhoods and beyond. Our mission is deeply influenced by our patron, St. Camillus, and by St. Francis of Assisi. With St. Camillus, we are drawn to be healers in our world, reaching out to the wounded and neglected of society. Inspired by the message of St. Francis, whose Franciscan friars have staffed the parish since 1984, we seek solidarity with those who inhabit the margins of our world, especially the poor. We strive for justice, peace and the integrity of creation for all God’s creatures.
