If you enjoy being in the woods and physically active, this is a simple, satisfying way to make a concrete difference for the local environment.
We are working to undo years of neglect of wooded parklands in Ward 8, including Shepherd Parkway, Oxon Run, Suitland Parkway, and Ft. Stanton Park.
We have a constant and nearly unending need for volunteers to:
-Pick up trash
-Haul debris out of the woods, including furniture, construction materials and car parts. We leave it at the curb, and the Park Service picks it up.
-Cut invasive species, including English ivy, multiflora rose, and ailanthus
Individuals, families and groups of all ages are welcome.
We have regularly scheduled monthly events but are also pleased to accommodate groups and individuals who would like to help at other times. After initial orientation, volunteers can work whenever it is convenient for them.
All volunteers receive free orientation, training and equipment. Water and light refreshment are provided.
Documentation of community service hours and letters of recommendation are available upon request.
