Help the medically underserved by volunteering as an interpreter for Open Arms Health Clinic! Open Arms provides free medical care to low-income and uninsured individuals in North Texas. About 40% of our patients are Spanish-speaking, so interpreters are vital to carrying out our mission.
As an interpreter you will be interpreting one-on-one with the patient through all stages of their appointment- from check-in paperwork to their interactions with nurses and doctors. You should be fluent in Spanish and English and be willing to get familiar with medical terminology. As an interpreter you will be trusted to listen in on very private conversations between patients and doctors, counselors or social workers. We will give you guidance on complying with medical privacy laws and you must be respectful of patient privacy, whether the information is medical or personal.
You may also be asked to call patients, listen to voicemails, or translate written forms. If you are unsure about interpreting during appointments, you can start off with these smaller tasks to build up confidence. For more information please contact us at volunteeroahc@gmail.com. We are excited to start working with you!

Location:

Mission Statement
To provide free, quality, compassionate healthcare to individuals and families of North Texas dealing with chronic and non-emergency acute illnesses, who have barriers to accessing healthcare, by promoting wellness and providing physical, emotional, and spiritual care in a loving, nurturing environment.
Description
Open Arms Health Clinic was conceived by Christian health professionals to help the many families and individuals in our community with limited access to affordable healthcare. In November of 2011 after just one year of planning, God provided the path and the means to open our doors. Open Arms relies on a rotating group of volunteers - doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, med techs, social workers, interpreters and office staff - who work hard to give patients compassionate, quality care. We are blessed with what God has provided, but also aware that the need is far greater than our resources currently provide.
Open Arms is always in need of more volunteers, especially medical professionals and Spanish-English interpreters. We have to turn people away almost every time we open because we do not have enough providers to see them all. With more volunteers, we could see more walk-ins with acute health problems and ultimately open more hours.
