Help the medically underserved by volunteering as an interpreter for Open Arms Health Clinic! Open Arms provides free medical care to low-income and uninsured individuals in North Texas. About 40% of our patients are Spanish-speaking, so interpreters are vital to carrying out our mission.
As an interpreter you will be interpreting one-on-one with the patient through all stages of their appointment- from check-in paperwork to their interactions with nurses and doctors. You should be fluent in Spanish and English and be willing to get familiar with medical terminology. As an interpreter you will be trusted to listen in on very private conversations between patients and doctors, counselors or social workers. We will give you guidance on complying with medical privacy laws and you must be respectful of patient privacy, whether the information is medical or personal.
You may also be asked to call patients, listen to voicemails, or translate written forms. If you are unsure about interpreting during appointments, you can start off with these smaller tasks to build up confidence. For more information please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are excited to start working with you!
