VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Receptionist & Administrative Support Volunteer is responsible for providing assistance in the day-to-day operation of the front desk, contributing to the organization’s efficiency.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE
- Greeting customers and helping to connect them with Food Bank staff
- Filing and/or mail letter stuffing
- Answering and returning phone calls
- Other responsibilities as needed and requested
- Could be expanded into additional responsibilities like assisting other departments while helping at reception desk
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to take and follow direction well
- Must be self-directed and skilled at problem solving
HOW THIS ROLE IS TIED TO OUR MISSION
Our front desk is considered the first impression of Second Harvest Food Bank. This volunteer would be the right-hand help to our Administrative Assistant and administration department. This opportunity would provide you with the ability to directly support the organization and serve our community through your skills and abilities. With a volunteer helping with the many day-to-day clerical, administrative tasks, our staff can be afforded the time to strengthen our workforce and develop our employees.
HOURS
We are looking for someone who can make a weekly commitment for a minimum of 3 months. We are specifically seeking someone to cover 10:00 -2:30 PM on Fridays.
TRAINING AND SUPERVISION
On-the-job training will be provided by Donna Hagan, Administrative Assistant and supervision provided by Teresa Guerra, Executive Assistant.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is providing food assistance and helping our community weather the COVID-19 variants. While the economy improves for many, there are nearly 350,000 individuals each month who continue to rely on Second Harvest for food. We must keep the momentum going to ensure all are well fed in Orange County. Above all, we are committed to nourishing everyone in our community who needs help.
Second Harvest distributes donated and purchased foods through a network of over 250 partner agencies throughout the county and every dollar donated to provides food for at least three meals.
