The premier program of The Plant Exchange, happening on Saturday, March 31, is the free, one-day event where gardeners, landscapers, urban farmers, educators, and enthusiasts all come together to exchange plants, equipment, tools, and information about ways to make our urban environment more sustainable, aesthetic, and healthy. The event also features gardening demos, food trucks, a live band, silent auction, and more! And, it is all free to everyone. For more information, visit http://theplantexchange.org.
We will need some extra hands the day after the event, Sunday, April 1, to help tidy things up after our big event. Volunteers are needed (tentatively) from11:30am - 1pm. Email volunteer@theplantexchange .com for more info and to RSVP.

Mission Statement
The Plant Exchange mission is to promote sustainable gardening practices, reduce landfill waste, educate people about environmental justice, and bring our community together over a common love of gardening. We seek to unite people of all ages and backgrounds and promote the personal health and community benefits that gardening provides.
Description
The Plant Exchange is a nonprofit environmental organization that has served Oakland and the Bay Area for over 15 years. Our signature event is our annual Plant Exchange, which draws over 1000 community members in a celebration of all things gardening. This event allows the community to share skills, learn about sustainable gardening, and contribute to the great greenness of the Bay Area, all while obtaining repurposed items for their gardens. The idea began in the front yard of our founder, Odette Pollar, as a way to connect with neighbors over gardening. Today, it holds the distinction as the largest free plant swap in the United States.
Our events and operations are 99% volunteer run! We have numerous opportunities throughout the year that allow our friends and neighbors the opportunity to give back to the community while performing the gardening they love. Every 2nd Saturday of the month is our Adopt-a-Plant Fundraiser!
