Cornerstone Assistance Network wants to place a Grant Specialist VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) at Saint Vincent de Paul.

Pay: $1,025 per month BEFORE taxes

Saint Vincent de Paul staff has the privilege of supporting a primarily volunteer operated nonprofit serving those who are battling hunger and homelessness in our community. We are funded by general donations from the community, grants, fundraising events, a few miscellaneous sources and in-kind donations. Grants currently make up 30% of our fundraising efforts. With more grants, we will have more funds, and we are then able to provide more services to those in need in a more effective manner. Our current grant system has been a mixture of work by the Executive Director and a contract grant writer. This program is an opportunity to further develop our grant program ranging from research to reporting, and everything in between. Grant writing is not a mystery, it is answering questions in a clear and concise manner that tell the grantor what we would like to do, how will we accomplish it, and how do we know we did what we said we would do. Grants are much more focused on outcomes then previously so this provides an opportunity for our agency to ensure we have established clear tools for measuring our outcomes. We are not starting from scratch, we currently have 17 grants we manage with varying degrees of reporting needs. We have a grant management tool for tracking current grants and researching new ones. We have a current grant list for specific programs, and we have a clear picture of where we need to receive more funding. With 426 foundations supporting San Antonio, Texas alone there are ample opportunities. Grantors are searching for nonprofits such as ours to support. We just need to ask. Grants are an effective way to grow our organization and by doing so assist more people who are in need.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a grant writing resource that gathers basic facts and ensures a consistent message
• Research for new grants
• Develop a system that tracks current grants, reporting requirements, and deadlines
