Department and/or Team: Marketing
Reports to: The Public Relations Director.
Works with: This volunteer will interact with the entire organization, but regular contact with Social, Content Creation, Marketing, and Leadership team will be required.
Description of Role: This position will play a vital role in developing and maintaining the public image of Dallas Pets Alive! This individual will work with almost every department for proactive media pitching and fielding of media inquiries.
Updating local online social calendars with Dallas Pets Alive! Events.
Writing and sharing photo stories from events (as necessary).
Researching, writing, and pitching compelling human interest stories that are related to our animals and/or volunteers.
Tracking clips and updating clip log.
Assisting in managing inquiries from media.
Sharing notable media articles/hits with appropriate teams.
Working with leadership to ensure that appropriate departments and spokespeople are used as resources for media.
Writing and distributing press releases and media alerts as needed.
Working with Public Relations Director to develop strategic PR plan, key messages, talking points and statements.
Assisting with media training as needed.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience in copywriting and editing.
Working knowledge of AP Style Ability to write both creative and business-focused content.
Knowledge of the D-FW local market, online media and national news media.
Ability to determine if a story idea is media-worthy.
A passion for helping rescue animals.
Photo and video-editing software experience a plus.
2-5 years of public relations experience.
A bachelor's degree in journalism/PR/communications/marketing.
Experience working with dogs and/or cats (personally or professionally).
