For newly arrived refugees, cultural orientation (CO) classes provide them with the knowledge and confidence they need to start their new lives in Milwaukee. Utilizing the Making Your Way curriculum, volunteers teach refugees from Burma and the Congo the basics of living in the US, including housing, health care, personal finances, employment, education, and cultural adjustment. CO is designed to be an interactive, hands-on class so that refugees feel comfortable asking questions and getting to know each other and their teachers. Description
Catholic Charities mission to "provide service to those in need, to advocate for justice and to call upon others to do the same" has been the core of our work since 1920. When we accomplish this, lives are transformed and the benefits to the community can be exponential starting by improving the quality of life one person at a time.
With an outpouring of support from the community, we are able to help the poorest among us.
