Internship: Videographer for Children in Foster Care

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE)

  • 4 people are interested

Right now there are over 850 children in Massachusetts foster care, waiting for adoption. These children have no permanent family. We want to change that.

We are seeking to create compelling video snapshots of waiting children, in order to recruit adoptive families. These short films help us capture the unique spirit and heart of each child, so that we are more able to connect them to families for adoption.

MARE’s Communications Department is seeking a highly motivated film production intern for the fall semester. The film production intern will work to produce high quality video segments that promote MARE's work and raise awareness about adoption from foster care. This internship will provide an ideal training ground for an intern to put their video skills into action in the real world. We will be pursuing an aggressive content creation schedule, so the intern for this position will quickly gain experience in all aspects of unscripted, documentary style video production.

The Film Production Intern will have access to professional grade film equipment and will work with the Communications Department team to identify content production needs. On a daily basis an intern would be required to do any or all of the following:
- Coordinate production date and times with social workers and foster parents
- Prepare for video production through appropriate research, shot planning, and interview preparation.
- Travel to various parts of Massachusetts for production
- Capture video compelling video of children ranging from 1 - 17 years old.
- Build rapport with children and social workers
- Conduct documentary style interviews
- Edit footage in Premerie or Final Cut X
- Assist with other creative or administrative tasks in the communications department

Mission Statement

The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) finds adoptive homes for children and teens in foster care.

Description

MARE works mostly behind the scenes to

  1. DEVELOP a PROFILE of each local youth in need of adoption,
  2. DESIGN a targeted plan to recruit potential parents for each waiting child,
  3. INFORM adults about the general need for adoptive families,
  4. EDUCATE prospective families about the adoption process, supports and benefits,
  5. MATCH prospective parents with specific children awaiting adoption,
  6. MOVE youth from temporary foster care to permanent family life.

MARE is the organization behind the Wednesday's Child profiles on WBZ TV and Sunday's Child in the Boston Sunday Globe, as well as nearly 30 other media outlets. We create the Heart Gallery photography exhibit of children in need of adoption. We host Adoption Parties to give children awaiting adoption the chance to get together with their peers, and to meet adults interested in adoption in a low key setting.
