Volunteers are broken down into teams, with varying responsibilities. You're welcome to join just one or many of the teams based on your interests. If interested, please complete an online application at http://mspfilm.org/volunteer/ underneath the "NEW VOLUNTEERS' heading.


PRE-FESTIVAL


STREET TEAM
About: Do you like to get out in the community? Do you like to get to know area businesses? Then the Street Team is an excellent place to volunteer!

  1. District Captain: Be the main distributor of marketing materials in an area. If general volunteers want to help with materials in the area they would come to you where they need to fill in the gaps.
  2. General Volunteer: Help fill in gaps in areas the District Captains needs.
Qualifications: Distribution will be needed primarily before the Film Festival.
  • District Captain: 4 hrs/week
  • General Volunteer: 1hr/week

DURING FESTIVAL

LEAD VOLUNTEERS

About: Lead Volunteers coordinate the volunteer team on their shift, and is one who communicates with the Venue Managers and the volunteer team.

Responsibilities: Manage a shift of volunteers, assist with volunteer check-in and check-out, answer volunteer questions delegate volunteers on the floor, maintain effective communication between staff and the volunteer team.

Qualifications: You must be at least 18 years old. You must be able to commit to at least one 8hr shift each weekend and will preferably volunteer for 25+ hours.

An organized person able to lead, delegate, and work one-on-one with volunteers, and manage a volunteer team. Patience, communication, and flexibility are important qualities. The ability to stand for several hours will also be necessary.

THEATRE OPERATIONS TEAM
About: These volunteers are the front lines of the Festival, and represent the heart of MSPIFF. For many of the festival guests, you will be the first face they see. The various roles include but are not limited to: Greeter, Usher, and Floater.

Responsibilities: This position is perfect for friendly and welcoming people who can solve simple issues such as answering questions, handing out ballots, scanning tickets, and controlling traffic flow.

Qualifications: You must be at least 18 years old. The ability to stand for several hours will also be necessary.


GUEST SERVICES TEAM
About: Help coordinate the visits of more than 150 visiting filmmakers and special guests.

Responsibilities: Assist in the hospitality lounge that serves the festival filmmakers.

Qualifications: You must be at least 18 years old. This is not an opportunity to network with the filmmakers. You must have the awareness of yourself and others to understand when and when not to engage with guests.

TRANSPORTATION TEAM (Subsection of Guest Services)
About: Do you enjoy interesting conversations with interesting people?

Responsibilities: Pick up filmmakers and industry guests from the MSP Airport and transport them around the Twin Cities area.

Qualifications: You must be at least 25 years old, have a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and your own vechile. You should have the maturity to be able to talk with passengers when needed but also the discretion to leave them be when needed.

EVENT TEAM
About: The Event Team is a great opportunity to help with the additional moments happening during the Festival. There are many events, parties, and panels throughout the Festival. We need volunteers who are either good at manual labor or customer service. We are splitting up the two necessities into "Productions" and Hospitality".

Responsibilities:
  • Productions: Productions volunteer will assist with set up and tear down.
  • Hospitality: Welcome guests, complete small tasks when asked.

Qualifications:
  • Production: Ability to lift 40 pounds.; if you have any lighting experience that would be greatly appreciated.
  • Hospitality: Friendly demeanor, an ability to project your voice; the ability to stand for several hours.



OFFICE TEAM
About: This position is perfect for volunteers with exceptional administrative and communication skills, are highly organized, adaptable and self-starters.

Responsibilities: Tasks include but not limited to: Ballot-counting, sign-in other volunteers, assisting with prep, and minimal cleaning.

Qualifications: You must be at least 16 years old. The ability to sit for several hours will be necessary.

Media Volunteer: Photo editing.

Description

The Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival is the largest annual international arts event in the region, and one of the largest and longest running film festivals in the country. The MSPIFF annually presents some 200 feature length and short form narrative and documentary films from 70+ countries to an annual audience of 40,000 attendees.

For more than three decades, this spring event has provided an opportunity for audiences to experience new cultures and ideas through the medium and art of film, and has welcomed numerous prominent filmmakers and personalites to tell their stories.

Since it's inception in 1981, the Festivl has develped an exemplary reputation of presenting a diverse and eclectiv lineup of films from around the world.
