It’s fun to participate in a some-assembly-required/paint the classroom event at a local school for one day. It really is!

But let’s be honest, you are no DaVinci. There's a better way to make a difference! Leverage your skills over the long term and your passion for ensuring every kid gets a great education, by joining Silver Oak as a board member.

Silver Oak High School delivers a free Montessori education to 200 future leaders each year. We need skilled people with a passion for equal access to education to join our Board of Directors. As a non-profit, publicly-funded charter school, our strategy and policies are governed by a Board. Our motivated, diverse and multicultural leadership team contributes time, skills and resources to create a learning environment that supports the youth of Hayward in their search for identity and purpose. We support these young students and the hundreds to come as they prepare to succeed as responsible leading citizens.

My name is Chris Pagel. I am a member of our leadership team which has evolved from a "Founding" Board into a Managing Board which needs more community leaders like you; people that listen to our head of school, ask questions, and make policy towards implementing our strategic plan.

Mission Statement

Silver Oak High School is an American Montessori Society college preparatory program guiding a diverse community of learners for lives of achievement.

Description

Silver Oak High School (SOHS) is a free to attend, independent public school chartered under the authority of the Hayward Unified School District. The School is incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit corporation governed by an independent Board of Directors. The focus of all involved is to deliver a college preparatory education that provides the Hayward community with an authentic Montessori secondary program. Since its inception, Silver Oak High School has worked assiduously to implement a sustainable Montessori program according to the educational philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.

Most importantly, SOHS is a community of learners. All students, faculty, staff, administrators, and parents are working towards a common goal. To provide a peaceful, engaging, and challenging environment that accommodates each adolescent’s individual learning process. It provides a voluntary public educational choice for parents with students in grades 9-12 who choose to have their children educated in an alternative learning environment.

SOHS offers a quality education - qualified instructors, a comprehensive curriculum, a supportive educational community, and resource materials - to ensure that students make appropriate progress toward achievement of Silver Oak’s school-wide learner outcomes.
