SCOPE OF WORKLeather: Production and Business Strategy - Volunteer Expert
Location of Assignment: Nairobi, Kenya Proposed Level of Effort: 3 weeks Anticipated Start Date: mid-late May/June 2018 Position Objective: The Expert Volunteer will support the production and business strategy teams with overall capacity building to prepare the company to accommodate large buyers’ needs. They will also help create a business strategy including sales, marketing, communication, branding and business development in order to help the host organization compete with other leather brands on a global scale. Anticipated Tasks:
- Support development of leather technician training manual by the enterprise
- Conduct training on production quality and international standards
- Support development of business strategy
- Build capacity to be able to handle large orders
- Business strategy

- Training on production quality and international standards
- A university degree in market research, marketing, international trade, manufacturing chemistry, engineering, business, economics, development, or a related field;
- Technical competencies and qualifications in market research, export development including distribution and coordination, supply chain, merchandising, production, export sales or logistics in a US-based retailer or importer;
- Extensive knowledge of the US apparel trade including familiarity with senior executives of top brands;
- Knowledge of export procedures and requirements for the USA (under AGOA)
- Previous experience in providing direct technical support to individual firms and business support institutions;
- Fluent in oral and written English;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Ability to work within strict deadlines;
- Established buyer relationships with retail channels in USA/EU is a plus;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; and,
- Knowledge of East Africa and Africa processing industry would be a great asset.
