SCOPE OF WORK
Food Certification & Marketing - Volunteer Expert
Location of Assignment: Chuka, Kenya
Proposed Level of Effort: 2 weeks
Anticipated Start Date: mid-late March 2018
Position Objective:
The Expert Volunteer is expected to provide support in gaining required certifications and facilitating market linkages in dried fruits and vegetables. He/She will guide the company’s overall process of becoming export ready.
Anticipated Tasks:
- Assist in obtaining required certifications, such as: Global GAP and HACCP
- Facilitate market linkages in dried fruits and vegetable
- Prepare Sweet and Dried to become export ready
Deliverables:
- Certifications obtained
- Market linkages facilitated
- Company to be export ready
Desired Volunteer Qualifications:
- A university degree in food technology, market research, marketing, international trade, manufacturing chemistry, engineering, business, economics, development, or a related field;
- Technical competencies and qualifications in food processing, market research, and export development, including distribution and coordination;
- Knowledge of export procedures and requirements for the U.S. (under AGOA);
- Knowledge of U.S. market food safety, SPS, and quality certification processes;
- Previous experience in providing direct technical support to individual firms and business support institutions;
- Fluent in oral and written English;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Ability to work within strict deadlines;
- Established buyer relationships with retail channels in U.S./EU is a plus;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; and,
- Knowledge of East Africa and Africa agro-processing industry would be a great asset.
