Mission Statement

STAR ECO Station is a non-profit environmental science museum and exotic wildlife rescue facility in Culver City , Calif. , where visitors have the chance to meet real animals, and learn how to do their part in protecting the planet. STAR ECO Station is a division of STAR, Inc. (Science Theater Art Recreation), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been providing award-winning education and enrichment programs since 1986. Dedicated to the mission of Preservation Through Education, STAR ECO Station offers inspiring, interactive encounters with real exotic animals at its rescue facility, and in classrooms in over 49 California school districts.

Description

STAR ECO Station is an environmental science museum and exotic wildlife rescue center. Designed to look like an ancient Mayan temple hidden deep in the rainforest, STAR ECO Station offers up-close encounters with over 100 species of animals from around the globe, including rescued tropical birds, wildcats, reptiles and sea life. Visitors to STAR ECO Station will discover an 18-foot python named Brutus, a chatty cockatoo called Ozzie, a beautiful Bobcat named Jay, and so much more.

In partnership with government and community environmental organizations such as U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Surfrider Foundation, and Santa Monica Baykeeper, STAR ECO Station rescues illegal and abandoned exotic wildlife.

There is an alarmingly widespread lack of knowledge and compassion for the Earth, which we passionately believe can be reversed by educating children and the community. With a mission of Preservation Through Education, STAR ECO Station offers interdisciplinary, hands-on environmental education programs - aligned with California State Science Standards - to inspire a deeper understanding of our role in protecting the Earth, with a focus on establishing sustainable environmental stewardship, environmentally-conscious lifestyles, resource management and responsible consumerism.

STAR ECO Station provides high quality environmental education outreach programs in over 49 California school districts through classroom instruction, after school programs, Gifted and Talented Education, fieldtrips, assemblies, community events, birthday parties, workshops, and tours of our Culver City facility. The STAR ECO Station directly serves over 670,000 visitors of all ages annually. The number of guests who can't afford entrance fees and come through our doors free of charge account for an additional 100,000 visitors!
