ORGANIZATION: San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity

  • 49 people are interested

Want to make a positive impact on the housing crisis in the San Gabriel Valley but not sure swinging a hammer is your thing? No problem! Volunteer in the office and support SGV Habitat "behind the scenes". We need volunteers from all backgrounds and it's OK if you have little to no experience - we love questions and learning from our volunteers' different perspectives. Our Office Volunteers get the opportunity to work with many different departments - resource development, accounting, marketing, and grant writing to name a few. Some days, you may work on a major project or event, and some days we may need you to shred outdated documents and answer the phone - it all helps. Volunteer hours are during the typical work week. About San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity

Location:

724 E. Huntington Dr., Monrovia, CA 91016, US

Mission Statement

Families and individuals in your community in need of a hand up partner with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. Through shelter, we empower. Description

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Habitat is not a give-away program. In addition to a 1% down payment and monthly mortgage payments, each homeowner family invests 500 hours of their own labor -- sweat-equity -- into the building of their house and the houses of others.
