ORGANIZATION: American Cancer Society of Brooklyn

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 38 people are interested

There are many volunteer opportunities that the American Cancer Society office has here in Brooklyn. You can volunteer to work the events in Brooklyn (weekends and late nights). We also have office volunteers that are needed. They work after school, or during the day if they are out of school, helping with mailings, calls, and much more. Finally, we will be opening an internship this summer for an upperclassman in HS, or a college level student. The majority of the work will be social media, making calls, and helping with event-related projects. Please reply via email if you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities.

About American Cancer Society of Brooklyn

Location:

132 West 32nd St, New York, NY 10001, US

Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer. Each event is a noncompetitive 3 to 5 mile walk that brings people together to make a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. The events raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable. Making Strides of Brooklyn hosts over 30,000 people and raises over $600,000 for the fight against cancer. We hope to see you with us on October 9th at Maimonides Park!

Description

The good news is that, thanks in part to the efforts of the American Cancer Society and money raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay For Life events, cancer incidence rates have been declining since 2000 and cancer deaths have been declining since 1989. Early detection has played a key role in the dramatic decrease. The goals for 2022 are to increase cancer screening rates in Brooklyn and decrease health disparities in the local community.
