Summary

Responsible for creating and updating HTML content for websites and Social media outlets, including news, entertainment, classifieds and employment sites. Job entails equally high degrees of creativity, design work, video production, technical skill and customer service. Maintains close communication with other internal stakeholders including sales teams and marketing directors. Your primary duty will be to professionally develop short form video content to help draw in sponsors and supporters. This role requires a desire for creative expression and the capability to provide professional support in a variety of disciplines. Producers lead teams of internal and external resources, manage budgets, coordinate crew & talent, negotiate with vendors, manage internal reporting and perform other administrative duties in support of the creative process. This role reports to the Communications Director.

Responsibilities

Ø Join the UBC as a producer in creative initiatives and serve as the creative director, writer and producer for video, photography, and new media projects and initiatives for the Executive Director.

Ø Responsible for the video and photographic coverage of the UBC Executive Director and the development of related strategic video and social media content to promote the Executive Director and the unique events, environments, lifestyle and opportunities offered at the UBC.

Ø Interview, network and negotiate contracts with community leaders, students, and faculty and staff.

Ø Continually research, seek inspiration and provide recommendations on how to keep the UBC’s creative initiatives, visual content and event promotion at the superior level of quality expected from a leader in the art and design community.

Ø Maintain several ongoing projects at once.

Ø Work closely with producers to coordinate shoots and projects from pitch to completion to ensure consistency with the original vision.

Ø Help develop new repeatable formats and series, honing stories at the pitch phase and giving notes on treatments, beat sheets and paper edits.

Ø Use strong storytelling and research skills to work with writers and producers to collaborate on scripts and develop a strong brand voice for each national brand to create shareable content.

Ø Periodically producing shoots in the field - your own and others’ - including directing cameras, guiding talent, conducting interviews, and obtaining signed releases and clearances.

Ø Liaison between Production, Post and Editorial to ensure all media is delivered on deadline and on budget.

Ø Manage the pre-production process to ensure that a prospective production is within the scope of our resources, meets our content goals, and is poised for success.

Ø Participate in creative meetings and create a feedback loop with the Director of Communications and editorial leads.

Ø Organizing shot footage and releases for Post-Production, Rights & Clearances, as well as for Archives.

Ø Understand strategic company priorities and how the team supports and fits into these goals.

Ø Understanding of how titling, metadata and thumbnails can affect a video's performance and how to make shareable content for a variety of media.

Ø Creatively source and secure footage from third-party sources.

Qualifications

Ø 5+ Years of professional experience in film, TV, or journalism producing various styles of video creation (digital-first, TV, social-only, longform)

Ø Strong attention to detail. Extremely creative, organized and dedicated to creating best-in-class videos

Ø Excellent communication skills, in person and in various written formats (Slack, email, etc.)

Ø Basic knowledge of organizational platforms such as Basecamp, Trello, and Slope.

Ø A basic understanding of CMS systems.

Ø Comfortable working within deadlines, under pressure, and juggle multiple projects.

Ø Proven track record of making content that is shareable and well suited for the digital landscape as well as an interest in keeping up to date with newer or emerging platforms and applications. (ex: Snapchat and Instagram Stories)

Ø Strong proficiency with video editing platforms, ideally Adobe Premiere, Comfortable with After Effects fundamentals.

Ø Strong proficiency with DSLR, ENG camera systems, specifically Sony FS and Canon C100/C300, etc. Basic lighting knowledge a plus

Ø Strong understanding of storytelling - visually and narratively.

Ø A curious critical thinker always looking for stories with a passion for editorial storytelling and new media.

Ø Can work well in a collaborative environment.

Ø Experience adhering to editorial guidelines and best practices.

Education

Ø Bachelor’s degree preferred

Ø Relevant experience in communications and media studies; photography/film/television; information technology/multimedia; and broadcasting

The culture fostered within the staff of the UBC organization is that of small family comradery. Each staff member has their own set of responsibilities but are expected to cross train in other areas whenever possible. Day to day tasks may become fluid based on the need of the office and incoming client requests.

Due to the nature of the social services industry and confidential nature of materials handled, the candidate must be willing to submit to a background check.
