General Description

This is an exciting youth-focused fellowship position, which involves supporting the activities and programming of a scholarship and leadership program for high-achieving students from indigenous communities in the Sacred Valley. The Fellow will live at Casa Mosqoy, the Cusco student residence and hub of the T’ikary Youth Program’s activities. During their stay in the Peruvian Andes, the Fellow will be responsible for supporting with activities programming for the youth in the house, will help to communicate the stories of the students to our audience around the world, and will support with general program responsibilities. The Fellow will have the opportunity to leave their mark on the program through a legacy project, which utilizes the Fellow’s skills and hones in on an aspect of the program they are particularly passionate about. The Fellow will gain leadership and international development experience working in Cusco, and the opportunity to form meaningful bonds with promising youth leaders from indigenous Andean communities. We are seeking someone with a high level of Spanish who is passionate about sustainable international development, education, and indigenous rights.

  • Volunteer position
  • 4-6 month commitment
  • Expected number of work hours: approximately 20-30 hours per week
  • Flexible, unconventional schedule
  • Job-related expenses are covered
  • The Fellow is required to live at Casa Mosqoy for the duration of their fellowship at a cost of S/. 400 per month. Four dinners and five breakfasts per week with the students at Casa Mosqoy are provided
  • A letter of reference and certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the fellowship
  • Location: Cusco, Peru, with the opportunity to visit remote communities in the Peruvian Andes
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

Contribution: All Mosqoy fellows are expected to fundraise a minimum of CAD$500 before the start of their fellowship. We also supply you with resources to help you with your fundraising endeavors. General Duties

  • Coordinate with T’ikary Youth Program Manager to plan and execute community- building activities and monthly workshops
  • Assist with student supervision and support, helping to monitor house responsibilities and modeling positive behaviour
  • Assist with the organisation and running of weekly fundraising events and activities, preparing materials, establishing relationships with local businesses, and campaigns
  • Develop program updates and individual student updates based on program activities and student accomplishments
  • Assist T’ikary Youth Program Manager with running of Casa Mosqoy homestay program
  • Travel to students’ home communities to gather content to communicate to our network
  • Support in developing a stronger T’ikary Youth Program alumni community
  • Write monthly blog posts
  • Assist in Mosqoy Peru event promotion and organization
  • Administrative program support

Description

Mosqoy was founded in 2006, and is a registered Canadian charitable organization and Peruvian AsociaciĆ³n Civil that works in remote communities of the Peruvian Andes, offering opportunities for economic development while nurturing their threatened indigenous culture. It operates two social enterprises: Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles and Mosqoy Field School, which collectively fund its three main programs: 1) the Q’ente Textile Program, which supports Indigenous communities by revitalizing and supporting textile traditions in the Peruvian Andes; 2) the T’ikary Youth Program, which offers promising youth of the region opportunities for post-secondary education; and 3) the Mink’a Knowledge Exchange Program, which aims to raise global awareness and responsibility in schools and universities.
