ORGANIZATION: National Youth Rights Association

  • 9 people are interested
You can volunteer from anywhere.

We are a national non-profit organization that focuses on promoting and expanding the rights of young people in schools and their communities. We are looking for people with experience in various social media platforms to either help us manage our current accounts (Facebook and Twitter) or move in to other platforms (such as Instagram and Tumblr). We are also looking for individuals who understand how other social justice movements use social media. We are a predominately youth-run organization - people under 25 are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should answer the following question: What are some social justice movements or organizations that you admire or follow on social media? when applying.

Thank you for considering us.

About National Youth Rights Association

Location:

PO Box 5865, Takoma Park, MD 20913, US

Mission Statement

The National Youth Rights Association is dedicated to defending the civil and human rights of young people in the United States. We believe certain basic rights are intrinsic parts of American citizenship and transcend age or status limits. As the world's leading democracy, the United States should not lag behind other nations in granting first-class citizenship to its young people. NYRA aims to achieve its goals through educating people about youth rights, working with public officials to devise fitting policy solutions to problems affecting young people and empowering young people to work on their own behalf.

Description

The National Youth Rights Association is a national non-profit dedicated to fighting for the civil rights and liberties of young people. We fight against age discrimination. NYRA has members in all 50 states, and chapters from coast to coast. We work to lower the voting age, lower the drinking age, repeal curfew laws, protect student rights, and fight against ageism where ever we see it.

In the grand tradition of the civil rights movements in the past, we seek to write a new chapter, and create a world where people are not judged by their birth date, but by the content of their character. Our mission centers on challenging age discrimination against young people, both in law and in attitudes. Many of the basic freedoms afforded to Americans in the Bill of Rights are withheld from youth, and not without troubling consequences for both youth and society as a whole.
