As part of our commitment to the Pittsburgh Marathon Charity program we have been asked to supply at least 30 volunteers for the Race Number pick up at the GNC Health and Wellness Expo at the David L Lawrence Convention Center.
Volunteers are responsible for distributing runner race numbers for race day. Due to the importance of proper number and chip distribution, volunteers will be provided with specific instructions detailing the procedures necessary to handle bib/chip issues as well as runners wanting to pick up packets for other runners. Volunteers are provided with chairs so they do not have to stand for the entire shift. This is a fun gig because you get to see a lot of the runners and experience their enthusiasm for the race!
All volunteers will receive:
- An official DICK'S Sporting Good Pittsburgh Marathon Volunteer T-Shirt
- An invitation to the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party at a Pirates Game (Game date TBD)
Volunteer registration will close at 5:00pm on Friday, April 27, 2018.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care.
Description
Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.
In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients.
People with cystic fibrosis are at greater risk of getting lung infections because thick, sticky mucus builds up in their lungs, allowing germs to thrive and multiply. Lung infections, caused mostly by bacteria, are a serious and chronic problem for many people living with the disease. Minimizing contact with germs is a top concern for people with CF.
