Purpose: The Salvation Army of Greater Williamsburg is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help us with our Food Pantry program. Each year, thousands of pounds of food enter into our waste system because they are thought to be unusable, though they are still in healthy, edible condition. In collaboration with the Food Bank of the Virginia Peninsula’s "Neighbor to Neighbor" program, it is our goal to "rescue" this produce while making it available to families who can use it. Food Runners will be responsible for transporting these food donations from grocery stores to The Salvation Army, Williamsburg.
Location: 151 Kristiansand Drive, Williamsburg, VA (moving in a few months to 216 Ironbound Rd, Williamsburg, VA.
Key Responsibilities: Ø
Attend Food Bank’s Food Handler’s training (approx. 2 hours) Ø
Be available on a weekly basis to pick up food donations with own vehicle Ø
Ideally can be "on call" for unexpected donations Ø
Work well with participating stores
Reports to: During volunteer shift: Social Services Programs Manager
Time Commitment: Ideally, seeking long term volunteers (for six months +).
Volunteers will attend an hour and half long training with FoodShare prior to beginning pickups and be oriented by participating grocery store.
Dress Code: Casual. This position requires volunteers to be on their feet and moving, comfortable shoes are highly recommended.
Own transportation* at times a TSA vehicle will be available for use

We are hoping to have more than one volunteer to cover this need. Two can volunteer together, or share weeks. Most of our food pickups are currently scheduled for Thursdays.
