ORGANIZATION: March of Dimes - Greater Bay Area

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 12 people are interested

March of Dimes is looking for volunteers to help out at our annual March for Babies event. March for Babies has several different events all over the Bay Area but we are looking for help at the San Francisco walk where we will host 1,000 walkers at the Harbor Plaza, Suisun City Waterfront on Saturday, April 21st from 7AM-12PM to celebrate, honor or remember babies in their lives. Each year teams gather to raise funds to help the March of Dimes find an end to premature birth and give every baby a fighting chance.

Become a volunteer with family, friends and colleagues in a fun-filled event to help make a world of difference to the health of moms and babies! We have volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups and look forward to making this another memorable and exciting day!

We have a variety of rolls for volunteers from checking in participants at the registration tent to cheering on walkers and passing out waters and snacks. If you have further questions please contact our local SF office at 415-217-6386.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, low birthweight.

Description

The first great polio epidemic in the U.S. was in 1916. The disease infected mostly children, killing thousands and leaving many more paralyzed. On a summer day in 1921, Franklin D. Roosevelt became one of its victims and the March of Dimes was born.

Through life saving research we beat polio, but we continue our efforts to help children today by working to save babies from the silent crisis of premature birth.
