POSITION TITLE: "Skills To Succeed" After School Volunteer
TIME COMMITMENT: Meeting one day a week (Thursday) for a minimum of three hours (3pm6pm)
for a minimum of 6 to 10 weekly session.
LOCATION(S): The Skills to Succeed program site is located at West High School (2901
Melrose Ave, Iowa City). Location is easily accessible by the Iowa City bus system.
PURPOSE: The purpose of Skills to Succeed is to help build, support and help teens establish
job-readiness and networking skills that build on current work and future career goals. Skills
To Succeed Academy is a digital interactive program - created by global management
consulting and professional services firm, Accenture - to help disadvantaged young people
worldwide build skills and confidence to make career choices and develop employability skills.
The program is geared towards teens who are now or who have had barriers in their search for
employment and will teach skills necessary to enter the workforce. As a Volunteer, you will be
part of a team of Goodwill and NCJC staff focused on leading teens towards success.
Volunteers work together to create a safe and welcoming space for high school students, as
well as, providing them with assistance with the program’s course modules and field trips.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must enjoy being around high school students
Must be able to commit to at least 6 to 10 weekly sessions Field trip dates are
mandatory: March 29th, April 26th, May 17th, and May 24th
Must be able to commit every Thursday, 3pm to 6pm
Must possess good interpersonal skills
Must be able to pass child abuse and criminal background checks
Past experience working with high school students, preferred
POTENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attending and assisting educational and enriching field trips
Engage in structured indoor and outdoor activities with high school students
Assist Lead Staff with assessment documentation, prepping for daily activities, etc
