ORGANIZATION: Compass Family Services

Compass Main Logo

Organization: Compass Family Services creates a strong safety net for homeless and at-risk families by providing a broad continuum of services that help our clients achieve housing stability, family well-being, and self-sufficiency.

Program: The Housing Outreach team helps homeless families find, obtain and maintain housing.

Purpose: We run a workshop every Monday and Friday from 10:30-12 for homeless families who want to apply to affordable housing waitlists and lotteries. Families can drop in during that time and get help identifying opportunities and filling out applications. We are looking for a volunteer who can commit to coming to the workshop each week and, with the support of our staff, talk with clients about what they are interested in and help with any questions that arise on the applications. We also would love help researching and keeping tabs on new affordable housing opportunities that arise so that we can include those in our workshop too. No knowledge of affordable housing applications needed - we can train you! We do, however, need someone who is comfortable talking to a wide range of people and who is good with details.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Help clients figure out which available housing opportunities fit their needs
  • Answer clients’ questions while filling out applications
  • Conduct research for new openings/waitlists
  • Maintain and organize applications for future workshops
