No matter who you are, you've got something to offer hospice patients. Typically the needs are simple: companionship, mindful listening emotional support or caring presence. But the small things you do can make an enormous difference in someone's life. You can assist patients by visiting, reading, writing letters, playing or listening to music, or just sitting quietly as the patient needs and prefers.
We serve patients and families in care facilities or in their homes in Manitowoc and Two Rivers. This means that there is likely a patient close to where you are.
Most volunteers commit to one to four hours per week though more time can be spent. The timing of visits is also flexible to meet the needs of your schedule.
This opportunity will let you practice soft and social skills, such as active listening, empathy, and conversation. It will also give you experience in a health care environment. Both of these reflect positively on a resume. Consider giving the gift of your time. You will get so much back from the experience.
Compassus Hospice volunteers must be 18 years or older with good interpersonal and communication skills. Orientation and training are provided.
Volunteers need to have the ability to work independently with indirect supervision, and a willingness to help others as a member of the hospice team. Volunteer schedules are based on your availability and are very flexible. Assignments are based on your level of comfort.
