CREW MEETING
We Work & We Party

Come out and educate the visiting public on the history of liberty ships and their role in WWII. A docent would be responsible for giving tours to groups, explaining components of the ship and man our ticketing booth at Pier 45 in Fisherman's Wharf. Experienced docents also assist with giving talks to community groups and operating our youth overnight program.

No experience required. Volunteers should love history and enjoy talking about it with the public. The volunteers aboard are a tight nit community committed to the goal of preserving the SS Jeremiah O'Brien for future generation to enjoy.

Parking is available for volunteers at Pier 45. Schedules are flexible and based on the volunteers ability to contribute.

About SS Jeremiah O'Brien

Location:

Pier 45, San Francisco, CA 94133, US

Mission Statement

The mission of the National Liberty Ship Memorial is to restore, promote and operate the LIBERTY Ship SS Jeremiah O'Brien as a living museum. The goal of this mission is to preserve, for present and future generations, the story of the patriotic and brave men and women who built, sailed and defended the 2,751 American-built World War II ships known as "Liberties".

Description

The S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien is one of only two surviving operational Liberty ships of 2710 ships of this class that were built. Liberty ships, along with similar Canadian and British ships, were the mainstay of the Allied logistic effort during W.W.II. Without the military and civilian cargos delivered by these ships, victory would not have been achieved. A national treasure, the O'Brien serves as a living memorial to the men and women who built, supplied, and sailed Liberty ships.
