The Columbia Music Festival Association (CMFA), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is asking for help sealing and painting the back wall of our building. The outdoor space also needs some light landscape clearing. We also have several indoor organization projects including the coordination of a massive donation of fabric (both folded cuts and rolled on cardboard cores) in our sewing studio and our cut room. If time and manpower allows we would like to organize the tools and hardware in our prop and set workshop. The outcome of these projects will accompany the organization’s Capital Improvement Project revitalizing the building’s exterior and a partial renovation of the interior. The warehouse, where the CMFA has resided for over 25 years, has huge utilitarian value as a creative space. It is the desire of this enterprise to improve the appearance of the structure to be a welcoming sight to the general public and to the thousands of tourist visitors that we host annually.
CMFA’s mission is to educate, discover, develop, train, assist, present, produce and promote performing arts among the area’s citizens and to serve as a council and resource for the community. CMFA serves as an arts council providing civic groups in Columbia, South Carolina shared administrative support and resources. The CMFA Artspace, housed in a 23,000 sq. ft. adaptive reuse warehouse, is unique to SC because it offers multi-purpose rehearsal studios, meeting spaces, along with costume, set, and prop storage and workshop space. A small black-box theater is also available to performance groups. Each year visitors use the Artspace to participate in or experience arts activities as diverse as classical ballet classes and academies, modern dance workshops, children’s opera productions, cabaret evenings, West African drumming, salsa summits, and video productions. The facility is a destination bringing thousands of visitors and artists to the community each year.
